Laser rifles served as the primary weapon for Visitor shock troopers in the original series; they were also used by members of the human Resistance, as well as Visitor Fifth Columnists.

The laser rifle appeared to be a carbine version of the laser pistol, featuring a barrel extension with foregrip, stock, and an optional thermographic scope. Like the pistol, the rifle was capable of firing bolts of adjustable strength from "stun" to "lethal" effects. It's power supply, dependent on a catalytic reaction involving cobalt, was capable of providing an unknown but considerable number of shots before depletion. Mike Donovan stated that he believed the rifle power supply to be rechargeable.
